GM's Web-Based Course Provides Comprehensive Training for Drivers of Large Vans

DETROIT - General Motors continues to make training available for its large van consumers. For several years, Coaching Systems® LLC, which designed a unique course for GM large van consumers, has teamed up with GM to offer training at a 40 percent discount to GM’s large van consumers. This training is designed to reinforce information that may be helpful for drivers of large vans.
Coaching Systems developed this course for GM’s large van consumers, building on van driver training that started in 1991 in conjunction with the National Safety Council. This web-based interactive coaching course reviews topics of interest to drivers of large vans:
A comparison of large vans versus typical passenger vehicles to review differences in vehicle design and potential implications for drivers, passengers, and other road users
Information to aid large van drivers in assessing a variety of urban and rural traffic situations, including appropriate driver actions
Basic vehicle inspection and maintenance highlights, with emphasis on maintaining proper tire pressure

National Survey Finds the Quest for Fuel Efficiency Is Changing Americans' Car Consciousness

Detroit, Mich. – With rising gas prices, today’s car buyers admit fuel efficiency and diversity is not just a necessity, it’s also fashion forward. If Americans had to choose between driving a car that was beautiful on the outside vs. one that was “greener” on the inside, nearly eight in 10 Americans (79 percent) who plan to buy or lease a car within the next two years would choose the greener car. These and more compelling statistics are a result of a national survey recently conducted by Challenge X – a national collegiate engineering competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and General Motors (GM).
The survey also revealed more than one in three Americans (36 percent) who are on the fence about buying a hybrid vehicle say the tipping point to seriously consider the purchase would be if gas prices rose to $4 a gallon. Nearly three in four car buyers
(73 percent) say the rising cost of traditional fuel would influence their decision to buy a hybrid vehicle as their next purchase.

Features of the Midget racing engine

This new engine is 166ci (2.7-liter) and burns methanol. It produces more than 350 horsepower and is very impressive for its rating. It is a lightweight, in line four-cylinder engine which has an aluminum block and cylinder head with two valves per cylinder. The Chevy Midget engine is equipped with mechanical fuel injection and utilizes an electronic ignition system.

Designed by GM Racing specifically for the USAC National Midget Car Series, the new purpose-built, four-cylinder Chevrolet racing engine will initially power Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) drivers Tracy Hines and Levi Jones in upcoming events. The new Chevy Midget engine will be available to all USAC competitors through independent engine builders.


It was about a year ago that Chevrolet announced its sponsorship of Tony Stewart Racing in open-wheel competition. Now the company has taken the bold and innovative step of creating an all-new racing engine for this popular American event.

FOR RELEASE: 2008-05-06 GM Announces Quarterly Dividend

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) today announced a second-quarter dividend of $0.25 per share on GM common stock. The dividend is payable June 10, 2008, to holders of record as of May 16, 2008. The dividend is unchanged from the previous quarter.

I do not know much about stocks but I would say that $0.25 is not much. With all the strides GM has been making in going GREEN, couldn't there be more GREEN backs for the pockets of its share holders?

From Clinton River Watershed Council, GM Mentors Local Kids Learn About Environmental Awareness

PONTIAC, Mich. - Students, teachers and General Motors employees will get their feet wet in environmental science - quite literally - at Riverside Park on the Clinton River, in Auburn Hills, as part of the Clinton River Watershed Council's Stream Leaders program this Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Approximately 80 kids will conduct water quality monitoring, learn scientific techniques and assess the stream's general health under the watchful tutelage of their teachers and volunteer mentors from GM's Pontiac Assembly Center, Pontiac Centerpoint campus and Pontiac Metal Center.


Philanthropy is a good marketing tool to employ if a company really wants to earn the respect of the community in which it does business. Philanthropy is also a good component in building brand equity."The CRWC's Stream Leaders program is one of many science and education programs GM supports in the communities where we have operations," said John Dansby, plant manager of GM's Pontiac Assembly Center. The program is good for children because it' is true to life and allows for participatory scientific learning. Gm support the program financially, as well as allow their employees to get involved in community activities.

DETROIT - GM dealers in the United States delivered 260,922 vehicles in April. Retail car and crossover sales were up more than 9 percent. A sharp sales increase in fuel efficient cars and crossovers could not make up for soft truck demand and a sharp decline in fleet deliveries impacted by the American Axle strike. On a non-adjusted basis, retail sales were down 11.5 percent and total sales for the month were down 16 percent.

The preferences of consumers has shifted so GM has shifted its modus oparandi. This is evidenced by their increased car and crossover sales. Their new products such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac CTS and Buick Enclave were excellent sellers throughout the month of April. Right across the automotive industry, truck sales have been slow. GM has been able to match the current economic slowdown with low inventories.While they are looking for ways to increase car and crossover production, they are improving their competitive position for the economic recovery.

WASHINGTON - General Motors Corp. and Mascoma Corp. today announced a strategic relationship to develop cellulosic ethanol focused on Mascoma's single-step biochemical conversion of non-grain biomass into low-carbon alternative fuels to help address increasing energy demand.
The relationship, which includes an undisclosed equity investment by GM, complements an earlier investment in a cellulosic ethanol startup that uses a thermo-chemical process to make ethanol from non-grain sources.

Making ethanol from non-grain sources such as the stalk of the corn plant or another member of the grass family known as switch grass is a good idea. Cellulose ethanol utilizes the grain of the corn which is needed for food. Since there exist another option, its wise to make use of it and avoid sacrificing food for fuel.

New York County Joins Chevrolet's "Project Driveway" Program to Market Test Fuel Cell Vehicles

ROCHESTER, NY - Monroe County, New York, announced today that they will use a Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Electric vehicle as part of their efforts to promote a cleaner and greener environment in the Western New York area. Monroe County becomes the latest member of Chevy's Project Driveway--the largest-ever market test of fuel cell and hydrogen technology.
The announcement was made by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks during her annual State of the County Address in Rochester, NY.

County executive Maggie Brooks said that Project Driveway is placing more than 100 zero emissions Chevy Equinox fuel cell electric vehicles on the road. These vehicles are powered by hydrogen. They are currently on the streets of key markets in the U.S. and around the world.

Cadillac's First Sale Of All-New 2009 CTS-V Benefits Charity

Atlanta - Saab Automobile USA continues its successful "Born From Jets" campaign with new advertising that features its redesigned flagship, the 2006 Saab 9-5 Sedan. The new ads represent the reaffirmation and continuation of Saab's aircraft-inspired marketing strategy.

Environmental Benefits Of Using E85 Fuel

"Using E85 fuel is an easy choice for consumers to make a difference for the environment and to reduce oil dependence," said Buick-Pontiac-GMC General Manager Jim Bunnell.

E85fuel is comprised of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. This fuel is said to be better for the environment and is rightly so because for every gallon used, only 15% is petroleum. It seems however that it is mostly small vehicles that are been produced to utilize this new commodity. What about the HUMMERS, the ESCALADES etc.

7 million vehicles today can use E85 (ethanol)

"We continue to believe that ethanol used in high blends like E85 offers the best near-term solution to offset increased oil demand," Energy and Safety Policy Beth Lowery said Thursday. Lowery said at the Department of Energy's Biomass Conference. "There are more than 7 million vehicles today that can use E85. The key is to increase the number of stations that offer the fuel."

E85 ethanol (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), is a cleaner-burning alternative fuel that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 23 percent compared with gasoline.

GM is really on the ball about this E85 fuel crisis solution. .With this product available, and 7 million vehicles in existence that can utilize it, the government and private sector giants are missing an opportunity to revolutionise the way we power engines.

Buick Lucerne Joins GM FlexFuel Lineup for 2009

Brazil has allot of fuel-flex cars, American made and others. The idea to make the Lucerne the first flex-fuel capable Buick passenger car is a good one. GM intend to make more than 15 other of their models with flex-fuel capability in 2009, an increase from the 11 offerings this year.

GM Aligns Marketing Leadership With Four Brand Channels

DETROIT – General Motors announced today that its U.S. marketing and field operations will be more strongly aligned into four retail channels: Chevrolet; Premium (Cadillac, Hummer, Saab); Buick-Pontiac-GMC; and Saturn. Each channel will be focused on continuing to deliver world-class products for their customer and build value for GM and their respective dealers.
GM announced the appointment of four new leadership positions to direct activities within this organization, effective June 1:

Change is good but will this change make a big difference? Americans are sold on foreign imports such as Toyota , Honda, BMW, Benz and Nissan. I sincerely hope that they will in fact achieve their objective of "delivering world-class products for their customers. GM has the resources to establish ethanol producing plants that produces the fuel on a grand scale. They Should start rebuilding their reputation by doing something grand.

DETROIT - HUMMER off-road racing teams are making final preparations to demonstrate their off-road prowess on opposite sides of the globe this weekend. The competition begins with Team HUMMER’s entry in Best in the Desert Racing Series Terrible’s 250 at Primm, April 19, and concludes with Robby Gordon Motorsport’s Team Dakar USA’s HUMMER H3 race trucks competing in the inaugural Dakar Series Central Europe Rally, April 20-26.

Personally, I think all auto racing using vehicles that consume petroleum products should be banned. These super charged vehicles used in auto competitions are not like the average vehicle on the road. They are super fast use allot more fuel per gallon.

Isn't General Motors' interest in these events hypocritical?

Doesn't this contradict their new GREEN IMAGE which they are claiming to promote by making electric and other environmentally friendly vehicles available?

Why don't they enter auto racing events, using their environmentally friendly vehicles and set an example?

Record 323,400 units in Q1 2008
Sales up 19.6% or 52,900 units from Q1 2007
Q1 2008 market share improves 1.2 points to 17.9%

Miramar, FL - General Motors Latin America, Africa and Middle East (GM LAAM) region
posted an all-time Q1 record in 2008, selling 323,400 vehicles, up 52,900 units over the same quarterly period in 2007. GM’s volume increase of 19.6 percent for the quarter outpaced the 11.7 percent industry growth rate for the region. In addition, LAAM’s market share increased to 17.9 percent for the quarter, up 1.2 share points year-over-year.
In achieving the Q1 record sales level, GM LAAM sold an all-time March monthly high of 111,300 units. This equates to a 7.2 percent improvement year-over-year.

This is good for GM. Americans seem to prefer non American cars though. It will be a good economic strategy if America would significantly improve its political image globally because its products (cars) seem to enjoy huge appeal to the international consumers. Allot of people in the Middle East like American cars but many probably wont buy them because they probably don't want to support the economy of a nation that seem to be oppressive towards them.

GM Brazil Announces New Engine Plant

New modern plant will start production in Q4 2009

Joinville City, Brazil - General Motors Brazil, along with officials from the Santa Catarina State and Joinville City, announced today the company's decision to build a new engine and automotive components plant in that city.

The new plant will require investments of approximately US$ 200 million and is scheduled to begin production in the 4th quarter of 2009 -- only 19 months from the announcement. The plant will employ 500 people and is expected to generate 1,300 indirect jobs.

This new venture is a good investment for Brazil. A total of approximately 1,800 jobs will be available within a short period of time. No doubt, these jobs would go a long way to benefit residents if the homeland (America) ,but this type of international business expansion will do allot for General Motors.

125 Accessories for the H3T.

HUMMER also revealed more detail around its plan to offer approximately 125 accessories for the H3T.

"The strategy for the H3T was to develop an extensive line of vehicle accessories that allows buyers to personalize the truck to meet their active lifestyle, from water sports to field and stream hobbies; extreme sports to sport-vehicle recreation," said Walsh.

Many people customize their vehicles. It is expected that Hummer customers will do the same. GM research revealed that "The current HUMMER customer adds three-to-four accessories to their vehicle at time of purchase and the average truck buyer will add accessories up to a year after they purchase the vehicle".
Some of the accessories available for Hummer H3T are:

Snug Top, Defender - worx, Truck Vault, Mile Marker, Bushwhacker, Boomerang and Diamondback Truck Covers.

Martin Walsh, HUMMER general manager said that the range of accessories available for the H3T will make it one of the most customizable trucks available.

Texas represents an important market to HUMMER as the brand prepares to launch its newest product. In addition to a reputation as the nation's truck capitol, Texas also represents a significant percentage of HUMMER's national sales. In 2007, HUMMER sales in Texas represented 11.6% of HUMMER national sales, up 24.9% from 2006.

He also made it clear that it is the responsibility of this generation to start taking steps towards widely distributing these new vehicles and not wait to pass the responsibility to the next generation. He said that hydrogen fuel- cells can be made from a broad range of renewable and sustainable energy products and making the fueling stations widespread and available is something that the government needs to get involved in.

GM delivered 282,732 vehicles in March.

DETROIT – GM dealers in the United States delivered 282,732 vehicles in March, a decrease of 13 percent when compared with the same month a year ago. For the first three months of 2008, GM total sales of 805,720 vehicles were down 11 percent compared with a year ago. Retail share appears to have remained stable throughout the month and the quarter.

This is a bad for GM. Keeping this up (or down) should put Toyota and others on the edge of their seats. Toyota and other manufacturers such as Honda, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Nissan are doing well but this kind of decline from General Motors does non readily translates to better markets for them. This kind of downward trend could mean that the economy is weak and could affect all players in the game.

How can your company’s consumers be persuaded?

Golden Krust may persuade its customers to become and remain faithful patrons by highlighting the fact their regards for the community in which they operate, mimics some of the “Core Values in the U.S. Culture… such as, education, individualism, freedom, youthfulness, activity, humanitarianism, efficiency and practicality” Contemporary Marketing, sub heading; Cultural Influences, page 255.

The Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Foundation was established in 2005 by their children who are the founders of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill. The company has been active in community events since its inception in 1989.This fact can be proven by its many contributions to multiple programs here in the United States and in the Caribbean. The foundation named in honor of their parents serves as its community outreach section and handles its participation in education and humanitarianism.

Education: Since nineteen ninety eight (1998), Golden Krust has been awarding the Mavis Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship to college bound high school senior in the United States and in Jamaica. In two thousand and five (2005) they awarded the first Golden Krust/Bronx Community College Foundation Scholarship to Evelyn Cardona.

Humanitarianism: The Foundation also focuses on projects that represent significant community needs in the area of health and wellness in Caribbean Countries. Their earliest assessment indicates that there was need for medical equipments in Jamaica. They sponsored a wheel chair drive as its community project and collected new and used wheel chairs that were refurbished and donated to hospitals in Jamaica, WI.

Efficiency and Practicality: The stores are always stocked with fresh supplies of whatever products the patrons are accustomed to receiving. The packaging is simple and practical. Weather the customers chose to stay or go, they almost always find their food suitably packaged.

Individualism and Freedom: Their menu is not restricted to just the regular palate. A strict vegetarian can enter and find a variety of mouth watering choices. The health conscious healthy-eater can also find a host of items that are tasty without causing him/her to compromise on freedom to choose.

Americans are generally patriotic .Most of the immigrants and visitors that come here are patriots as well. By doing more to highlight the fact that it is a company that cares about and take practical steps towards catering to cultural core values, Golden Krust will be in a position to persuade its present customers to keep on coming. Not only present ones but the patriots among us all will want to spend their money with accompany that thinks and acts the way they do.

The Easter Season.

The Easter season is here again and Golden Krust is ready.

Have you visited your favorite Golden Krust restaurant lately? well, if you have, then you might notice boxes and boxes of Easter buns on display. you might have also noticed that cheese trays have a greater quantity than usual, and that there are larger individual pieces. This is so because while people eat bun and cheese all through the year, those of the Christian persuasion consume more at this time of the year as they celebrate Easter . Golden Krust bakeries turn out larger portions of buns at this time in order to keep the store shelves stocked and their customers satisfied. However, Golden Krust HQ. does not supply stores with cheese, so it is up to the franchisee to make sure that they order more so that they have sufficient amounts available at hand to compliment bun quantity.

The Five year Projection.

Currently, Golden Krust has 120 stores in operation, in over 8 states, and is positioned to become a leading food franchise. Since its start, the Company is undergoing strong and steady growth, and plans to open more than two hundred stores over the next five years.

Is this dream possible? Let’s see! The company was established in 1989. Within 19 years of operation, 120 stores have been opened. Therefore 120 stores divided by 19 years equals to about 6.3 stores per-year. If the “steady growth” remains at 6.3 stores per-year, then it is reasonable to expect approximately 31.5 more “stores over the next five years”. Can they do more than “two hundred”? Let’s continue the math tomorrow…

In order that to assist franchisees in having a successful business experience, Golden Krust provide the following support package;

1 · Assistance with Site Selection. Management helps to chose locations that are in densely populated areas in order to facilitate maximum patronage.

2· Development and Construction as required. Size of building may vary but layout and color has to be identical to others.

3· Manuals for operations, training, design & construction.

4· Training. Before going to work, each employee is required to undergo training in a real world (Golden Krust) training environment.

Golden Krust launches new interactive website. Golden Krust decided it was time for a facelift, inlight of the 100th store being opened Haywood Hawthorne, VP of Manufacturing & IT thought it was the oppurtune time to implement the new website which engages regular users as well as provides functionality for current, prospective franchises and consumers alike.

New sales approach for Golden Krust.

(1) Current Sales Approach (Retail Launch):
Golden Krust prepares to launch its retail division. Soon you will be able to pick up your favorite patties at supermarkets. By making the patties available at supermarkets, regular customers will have a wider variety of locations from which to access this delicious product. This new sales approach will also attract new customers, as there are some people who have never consumed Golden Krust delicacies but visit these supermarkets and are likely to try and like this new product, thereby, increasing the companies clientele, sales and profit margin.

(2) Suggested New Sales Approach For Golden Krust(Delivery Service):
A new sales approach would be to implement a delivery service. Yhere is a lot of revenue out there that goes into the pockets of other restaurants such as Chinees restaurants, that offer round the clock delivery.

OVER THE COUNTER SELLING;
Customers come to the restaurants and purchase their meals from the casheer.
Golden Krust patty is the main item on the menu that keeps customers coming back again and again. The patty is I tasty crescent shaped turnover with a filling of either Beef, chicken, vegetables, shrimp, cheese and beef or soy protein. It is regarded as a complete meal; however many people will have it with cocoa bread or regular bread and a drink of whatever preference.

Golden Krust Launches “Jerk Turkey” in November.

Spice up your Thanksgiving with the flavor of the islands – Turkey island style, seasoned with GK’s special blend of herbs and spices, succulent and tender to the last bite.


I haven’t yet tasted the Golden Krust turkey but I am in a state of anticipation. Adding a new product, particularly a Traditional American dish with a Caribbean twist will have customers from all demographic groups, descending on the restaurants in droves. This is an excellent marketing strategy.

This is a bold conception for GMC. Why not? There are pilotless planes in the sky. What if the Japanese or the Europeans do this by 2012? The technology to do this is here already so GMC should move fast or risk loosing that future MARKET.

Breakfast at Golden Krust is a treat and a-half!One can select from a wide variety of tasty dishes, such as;1. Ackee and Codfish (salt fish).2. Pickled Mackerel.3. Cornmeal Porridge.4. Oat meal.5. Several Patty Choices.I will tell you about the rest as the days go by, but don't wait. Go and visit one today. The one located at 2846 Church Avenue in Brooklyn is my favorite. They are opened as early as 6:00 am, Mondays to Saturdays, and 8:00 am on Sundays.Who knows? You might meet me there.

Assignment: Re; Golden Krust Greatest Marketing Era and its Greatest Product.

(1) The Production Era:
This Era stands out as the greatest Marketing Era for Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill.

(2) Production:
Production is what drives this business. They produce a variety of fine edibles, such as; whole wheat bread, white bread, buns, bulla cakes, birthday cakes, patties, etc. Golden krust's products are a favorite in whichever community a franchise is established. There is an extensive breakfast menu, consisting of; porridges, codfish dishes, vegetables, meats green bananas, etc. The lunch menu is much more exciting. You can get; oxtail, curried goat, an assortment of chicken and fish dishes, soups and patties are available from breakfast time to suppertime.People of all demographic groups patronize its products in a sort of die-hearted manner, hence the need for significant production emphasis. To date, there are over one hundred and twenty restaurant franchises in eight States in the USA and growing. Each restaurant is supplied at least four times weekly with an assortment of baked products.

(3) The product which was is and seem as though it will continue to be the greatest is the 'patty'. The patty is a tasty turn over which is filled with deliciously cooked beef, chicken, shrimp, soy, fish, currants or vegetables. There three beef choices and two chicken. The plain krust is also available. The 'patty' is a complete meal by itself and because of the variety available, it started out and remains the number one item of choice, and the most heavily produced.
